The Sports Development Unit based at VASANOC are currently on Vureas, Ambae to participate in the Penama Secondary School Sports Association (PISSA) Games.

The PISSA Games is the most successful and consistent provincial school games in Vanuatu and “the pride of Penama”.

VASANOC has been sending the SDU Team to help in these Games since 2005.
This year’s Team includes Development Officers from Beach Volleyball, Table-Tennis, Archery, Rugby Union and Netball.

Apart from assisting in the technical aspects of developing and promoting their specific-sports, the members of the Team will also be doing Talent ID work and running awareness on STOP HIV, Anti-Doping, Athlete’s Career Pathways, Women In Sports and Sport Education.

Thank you to Olympic Solidarity for assisting VASANOC in this Program.

History for Melsisi SchoolCourtesy of Vanuatu Netball (VNA)For the first time ever Melsisi school participated in netball in the PISSA games.  Melsisi has never participated in netball in the PISSA games before, but after VNA introduced netball to their school in April they have continued their training and were able to take part in PISSA netball.  It was amazing to see the improvement in both the senior and junior teams over the week of the PISSA competition.  Having never played in a full match before, it was hard for the players to get used to the full one hour game, but they quickly adjusted.   Every time they went onto the court the players worked very hard and learnt lots about the rules of netball and how to use them in a game.  There are some players at the school who have lots of potential so it is important they keep up with their training so their skills keep improving.  For their hard work Melsisi School were awarded with the Encouragement Award by VNA.  A set of uniforms will be given to the school as their prize and they will be able to use these at the 2011 PISSA games in Gambule, Maewo.  The third place achieved by the Senior Team was also a great achievement and they are hoping to improve on this at next year’s PISSA games.  Congratulations to the players and coaches at Melsisi School.
